Why A Liver Detox Diet Is The Right Choice Right Now

Article by Sandra Fierling

A liver detox diet is a way of cleansing that you should consider first – before a bowel or colon cleanse.

Unfortunately our body nowadays has an excess of harmful toxins – often causing us to gain unwanted weight. We are what we eat and today’s food can be full of pesticides (fruit and vegetables), hormones from meat and meat products and even heavy metals from the ocean fish we consume. Added to that are chemicals is almost ALL of our skin and hair care products – just look at the list of ingredients next time you use your shampoo and conditioner. We haven’t even considered our ‘normal’ air and water pollution!

There is, however, hope on the horizon. We have a lot of products that help us cleanse our bodies: juice fasts, the lemon diet, even a 3 day detox diet up to several months, but it’s good to target the liver first as this is our main organ that starts the elimination and filtering process.

For a liver detox diet, try beetroot juice. It’s one of the very best things for helping the body eliminate and also has a ton of good properties (rich in iron, for example) to help your body. As a child my father made me beetroot sandwiches for school! It’s best to start off small – maybe a quarter of a cup of raw beetroot juice. Organic if possible. If you have a garden, consider growing beetroot yourself. It stimulates and protects your liver and bile ducts. If you don’t have juicer? No problem, you can just grate it and then cover with water. Leave for at least 20 minutes and then strain. Drink the red water.

Here’s an example of a Liver Detox Diet:

Here’s a simple liver detox diet:Drink fresh raw beetroot juice every day (see above)Eat whole grains (brown rice, millett, barley, buckwheat, quinoa, etc.)Eat steamed veggies or lightly sauteed in a wokEat fresh fruit or fresh fruit juiceDrink plenty of good quality water – at least 2 litres a dayYou can also drink herbal tea (without sugar)No meat or fish during this timeRefrain from tea, coffee, dairy (that means milk, eggs, cheese, yoghurt, etc.), sugar and white flour and wheat if you can

Do this for a week and your liver will thank you.
