What You Must Know and Understand About The Detox Diet

Article by Jaime Rood

Much has been written about the detox diet (detoxification) over the decades. It seems the past ten years, roughly, have seen an explosion of these diets. The basic principle is the same across all of them, and that is to use foods (or liquids) to help your body get rid of toxins. First, we must caution you and suggest you talk to your doctor before embarking on any kind of detox diet. Many people turn to this overall approach when they want to lose weight. While it is possible to achieve that, we feel the loss will be temporary for a variety of reasons. We will talk more about the detox diet in the rest of this article.

It’s a valid statement that twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, your body is fighting to rid itself of the poisons and toxins that it is exposed to regularly. The main systems that work to eliminate these toxins and poisons are your liver, intestinal tract, and your kidneys. So it only makes sense that many components involved with the detox diet support the optimal functions of those organs and processes. Your body already knows how to eliminate toxins. A good detox diet program will allow your body to work better doing its job. When your body’s systems become stronger as a result of detoxification, it can heal faster and your health and strength are improved.

What you may experience as a result is more energy, better digestion, stronger immune functions, decreased or elimination of bloating plus other benefits.

The detox diet is very beneficial when used properly, as long as you don’t also have certain medical conditions. There can be problems if you have diabetes, heart disease, or other chronic problems. But the primary issue here, with most doctors if not all, is not the “detox diet” but a highly restrictive diet. The detox approach usually entails a very restrictive diet, at least for a short time. Doctors warn of possible negative side effects, especially for teenagers and younger children.

You will find some detox diet approaches that make use of laxatives but please understand that not all of them do. Using laxatives can help remove the toxins from your body as well as helping with digestion. And obviously, waste elimination helps this process. Improving waste elimination is a critical part of the whole detoxification process. Focus on the health of your liver and kidneys can be more beneficial. Consulting with a licensed doctor of osteopathy or your doctor is still important for you to do. Successfully using the detox diet requires learning as much as you can. If you are interested to explore detox diets, then we strongly recommend you do your research well. Get information from credible sources as much as possible and know exactly what you are doing. The most important consideration is that you use it safely and without adverse side effects.
