What Alternatives Are There To The Detox Diet?

Article by John OBrian

There are many detox diets that exist today. While there are safe and practical ways to actually detox and cleanse the body, most of these diets are attempts at quick weight loss. There are many different alternatives to consider as opposed to trying these types of diets.

Generally on one of these diets it’s mostly water and juices that are drank for a period of time. The better alternative to this is to start eating a diet that is higher in natural based foods like vegetables and fruits. In their raw form there will be quite a bit of chewable fiber. It is fairly easy for the body to digest these types of food. Eating this way you will avoid the major hunger pains while still getting some of the benefits of having foods that are simple and easy to digest. In the long run this type of eating has huge benefits.

Some use a detox diet to lose weight. While it might sound amazing to be able to take a weekend and lose five pounds, you really aren’t losing any fat at all. You are mainly losing water weight. The better alternative to this type of dieting is to literally change your habits. You can’t have poor eating habits and not exercise and expect that a weekend of lemon juice every month or two will keep you in shape. While a detox plan might sound easier, the day in and day out discipline of eating healthy and exercising is the only thing that will guarantee results.

If you are trying to get off a substance like alcohol or even caffeine, it will be much easier on you to have your normal eating habits while giving these up versus attempting to do it through a detox dieting period where all your habits are different. Getting off something that you depend on and enjoy should be done without huge changes in other areas of your life so your energy can focus on getting rid of that one thing.
